--------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Written by: Paul and Linda McCartney From: "Venus and Mars" (1975) Tabbed by: maguri Tuning: Standard Capo: 3rd fret Play: Em Key: Gm For chords in original key transpose +3 (and "use flats"). Why a transposed version with capo? If you don’t have McCartney’s vocal range, you can still sing this song and keep the signature riff intact. Since the capo version is in G minor (capo 3), you can simply lower the capo step by step, or play without capo to drop the key up to three semi-tones. Every step down gives you a bit more breathing room vocally, especially for the high lift in the Middle 8. The iconic pattern still works exactly the same, because you're just shifting the key, not the shapes. So you maintain the guitar texture, no matter where you place your capo. TABS (capo and original version in Gm) Capo 3rd fret Capoing at the 3rd fret puts you in the original key (G minor), but lets you use easier chord shapes and avoid the barre chords in the Middle 8. This version also brings out the minor-to-major shift in bars 5 and 6, by adding a hammer-on from the minor 3rd to the major 3rd. While that’s not exactly what’s played on the original recording, it fits really nicely here and works well with these Em-based shapes.

No capo If you’re going for authenticity, this is the one — but it does involve a bit more of a stretch and introduces some barre chords later on. The hammer-on in bars 5 and 6 here is from the major 3rd to the 5th, just like on the recording.
