Chords

"Sad Day"(Jagger/Richards) Released as the B-side to 19TH NERVOUS BREAKDOWN in the USA on 12 February, 1966. Most transcriptions of this song have it in G with a capo on 3, which sounds fine but is a very un-Keith way of playing it. In the 66-67 era he played in A a lot, with capo or tuning down. I've chorded it that way here. D/A = X04230 [Intro and recurring riff]: A D/A A D/A [verse 1]
         A D/A A D/A A D/A A
Someone woke me up this mornin' and I lit a cigarette

        A D/A A D/A
Found myself when I stopped yawnin',

         A D/A A
started getting myself dressed.

     E D
Then I felt I had a dream,

     E D
I remembered the things I'd seen

          A D/A A D/A
I could still hear the things you said

           A D/A A D/A
with that bad dream in my head

         Asus4 A Asus4 A
It was a sad day, bad day, sad day, bad day.
[verse 2]
      A D/A A
So I called you on the phone

           A D/A A
and your friend said "she's not home"

      A D/A A
So I told her where I'd be at

          A D/A A
and that you should call me back

        E D
Then I looked at the morning mail,

          E D
I was not even expecting a bill

      A D/A A D/A
Your letter a-started "Dear",

        A D/A A
and it left me with these tears.

          Asus4 A Asus4 A
It was a sad day, bad day, sad day, bad day.
[verse 3]
              A D/A A
Think of the times that we had rows,

        A D/A A
but we patched them up somehow.

              A D/A A
Think of the times I tried to go,

           A D/A A
but you screamed and told me no.

          E D
There is only one thing in this world

        E D
that I can't understand that's a girl

           A D/A A D/A
I keep a-readin' the things you said,

        A D/A A D/A
like a bad dream in my head.

         Asus4 A Asus4 A
It was a sad day, bad day, sad day, bad day
[outro]
            A D/A A
Oh, what a sad, sad, old day,

   A D/A A D/A
a sad old day it was a sad old day.

   A D/A A D/A
A sad old day, It was a bad old day.

 A D/A A D/A
Sad old day a bad old day.

            E D
If there is one awful thing in this world,

        E D
that I can't understand that's a girl

          A D/A A D/A A
It was a sad, sad old day, sad old day,

A D/A A D/A
It was a sad old day.
