Chords

The song is really in an Open G tuning, that's how you get that double string sound that he gets on the intro, as he strums two strings at once. This isn't possible in Standard E, so I had to tab it out differently here. If you play on a 12-string guitar you would probably get the same sound. I suggest playing the chords barred throughout the whole song as it is easier to change positions from chord to chord and as some of the chord changes happen fast. This is the opening "riff", after playing it once you strum a G chord (I suggest barre, as your fingers are in the right place at the end of the riff) twice and repeat the tab once more.
e|--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
B|----------------------------------------8h10--8---------------------------------------------| Strum
G|---------------7h9--7------7h9--7h9--7-----------9--7h9--7h9--7-----------------------------| G twice
D|--5h7--5h7--5----------------------------------------------------7h9--9--7h9--7h9--7--2--5--| then
A|--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| repeat
E|--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
Keep playing that G for a little bit then start the song. Keith keeps playing this riff in the verses, but if you want to sing and play, or you're a solo guitar player, it's easier to just strum chords to fill out the verses more. [Verse 1]
         C G Am C
When the wind blows and the rain feels cold

                 G C G
With a head full of snow, with a head full of snow

       C G Am C
In the window, there’s a face you know

                   G C G
Don’t the night pass slow? Don’t the nights pass slow?
[Chorus 1]
C G
The sound of strangers sending nothing to my mind

Am D C G
Just another mad, mad day on the road

C G
I am just living to be lying by your side

        Am D C G
But I’m just about a moonlight mile on down the road
[Verse 2]
       G C Am C
Made a rag pile of my shiny clothes

                 G C G
Going to warm my bones, going to warm my bones

         C G Am C
I’ve got silence on my radio

                  G C G
Let the air waves flow, let the air waves flow
[Chorus 2]
C G
Oh, I am sleeping under strange, strange skies

Am D C G
Just another mad, mad day on the road

C G
My dream is fading down the railway line

    Am D C G
I’m just about a moonlight mile on down the road
Yeah, yeah [Bridge]
G C G
I’m hiding, sister, and I’m dreaming

G C G
I’m riding down your moonlight mile

G C G
I’m hiding, baby, but I’m dreaming

G C G
I’m riding down your moonlight mile

G C G
I’m riding down your moonlight mile
Am C G
             Am C G
Let it go now

                Am C G
Come on up, baby

                   Am C G
Yeah, let it go now

                    Am C G
Yeah, flow now, baby

                      Am C G
Yeah, come on now, yeah

G
Heeeeey
[Outro]
D C
Yeah I’m coming home

          Am D C G
Cause I’m just about a moonlight mile on down the road

            D C
On down the road, on down the road

                G
Yeah, yeah baby
* Where the chords are closer together you play half as many strums as normal. ************************************ | h Hammer-on ************************************
