Chords

Released: 2022 Traditional Australian folk song. Note: In the Youtube link provided the song starts at 8:54. This song is “A Capella” but there was a request by Kyelindtx1 and ErosionOfSanity to put some chords to this. Careful there is a gradual keyshift in chorus 1. The song "Crossing the Bar" follows almost staight after "Wreck of Dandenong" and is not mentioned in the youtube timings so I left it here. So two songs for the price of one!!. Capo: 1 fret [Verse 1]
A
Wild and furious blew the blast,

                    E7 A
And the clouds were hangin' round,

                        E7
When the Dandenong from Melbourne sailed,

      A E
To Newcastle port was bound,

        A E
She had eighty three poor souls on board,

            A E
Through the storm she cleaved her way,

          A E
Well it's sad to relate her terrible fate,

    E7 A
Was just off Jervis bay,
{Chorus}
               D A D
And I dream of you, I dream of sleep,

      A D A D
And I dream of you, I dream of sleep,

  A D E
I dream of bein' warm,

    A D
But through the night I have to sail,

                A E A
All through the raging storm.
[Verse 2]
A
While steering through the briny waves,

             E7 A
A propelling shaft gave way,

                         E7
And the waters they came crashing in,

      A E
Which filled us with dismay,

    A E
All hands on board did all they could,

        A E
'Til at length all hope was gone,

         A E
And they hoisted a signal of distress,

   E7 A
On board of the Dandenong,
{Chorus}
            E D A E D
And I dream of you, I dream of sleep,

      A E D A E D
And I dream of you, I dream of sleep,

  A D E
I dream of bein' warm,

    A D
But through the night I have to sail,

                A E A
All through the raging storm.
[Verse 3]
A
It was not long until a barque,

               E7 A
Of a brisk and lively crew,

                          E7
Came bearing down and the Captain cried,

       A D E
"We'll see what we can do!"

     A E
Came bearing down with might and main,

   A E
In spite of land or wave,

         A E
They did all they could as sailors would,

      E7 A
Those precious lives to save.
{Chorus 1} Move capo up one position ie to fret 2.
            E D A E D
And I dream of you, I dream of sleep,

      A E D A E D
And I dream of you, I dream of sleep,

  A D E
I dream of bein' warm,

    A D
But through the night I have to sail,

                A E A
All through the raging storm.
[Verse 4]
    A
Now some in boats they tried to reach,

              E7 A
That kind and friendly barque,

                                E
And numbers of their lives were saved,

        A E
But the night came on pitch dark,

     A E
What mortal man then could do more,

         A E
When the storm increased on strong,

        A E
And the rest now sleep in the briny deep,

 E7 A
Along with the Dandenong.
{Chorus}
            E D A E D
And I dream of you, I dream of sleep,

      A E D A E D
And I dream of you, I dream of sleep,

  A D E
I dream of bein' warm,

    A D
But through the night I have to sail,

                E A
All through the raging storm.

A F A F
Sunset and evening star,

    A D E
And one clear call for me,

                 F A F
And may there be no moaning of the bar,

     A D E
When I put out to sea,
[Chorus 1]
     F A
When I put out to sea,

     F G A
When I put out to sea,

                 F G A
And may there be no moaning of the bar,

F G A
When I put out to sea,
[Verse 2]
           F G C
But such a tide as moving seems asleep,

   F G C
To full for sound and foam,

                F G C
That which drew from out the boundless deep,

F G C
Turns again-ain-ain home,

C G C
Turns again-ain home

C G Am
Turns again-ain home

                F G C
That which drew from out the boundless deep,

F G C
Turns again-ain-ain home.
[Verse 3]
C F G C
Twilight and evening bell,

    F G C
And after that the dark,

                 F G C
And may there be no sadness of farewell,

F G C
When I-I-I embark,
[Chorus 2]
G F G
When I embark,

F G Am
When I embark.

                 F G Am
And may there be no sadness of farewell,

F G C
When I embark.
[Verse 4]
              F G C
For tho' from out our bourne of time and place,

    F G C
The flood may bear me far,

              F G C
I hope to see my pilot face to face,

     F G C
When I have crossed the bar,
[Chorus 3]
G F G
When I have crossed the bar,

F G Am
When I have crossed the bar,

              F G C
I hope to see my pilot face to face,

     F G C
When I have crossed the bar,
[Outro]
C F C Em
When I have crossed the ba-a-ar,

     Am G Am
When I have crossed the bar,

F G C
I hope to see my pilot face to face,

     F G C
When I have crossed the bar.
