I'M ONLY SLEEPING is not as simple as it looks and it took four days to complete. It was speeded up and down several times to achieve the sound Lennon was looking for his own voice, but the most painstaking was the backwards guitar, which took George six hours' hard work. The song is a real work of art and manages only too well to transmit Lennon's lazy feelings and his occasional loathing for reality. Tune your guitar half a step down to get the same pitch of John's guitar on the record.
