Chords
Notes in parentheses are individual walking notes as he fingerpicks the chords. If a note is indicated in
parentheses with an asterisk, it is the highest note in that walking passage. For example, in the intro
(G B*) is played on the open G and B strings and the (G* C) is played with the G on the 3rd fret of the
high E string, followed by the C on the first fret of the B string (individual notes are listed relative
to the capo in the same way as the chords). If you prefer to come up with your own picking patterns, I have
also listed the chords again at the bottom with all of the parenthetical notes removed.
I believe the Bm in the verses is the chord that would be strummed, but what Mike appears to be playing to
facilitate his fingerpicking is sort of a modified Bm7 (x2403x). In the tab below, Bm (G) C indicates that
he plays the A and B strings of the Bm chord, followed by the open G string as he switches chords,
and then the C chord.
Note that in verse 2 of the acoustic version he changes the lyric from "hope's a red balloon" to
"your heart's a red balloon" but I left the lyric below to match the full band version because I prefer the
differentiation between the two verses.
