Chords

In 3/4 time, with the bass string of each chord plucked followed by two strums. Two bars of alternating C and C/G at the end of each verse. [Verse]
C F
Much of the ocean is not yet explored

C G
Though submarines pootle about the sea floor

C F
Discovering new species wherever they go

C G C
Such as elephant-like-squid and eels that glow.
[Verse]
C F
The following formula's certainly true

C G
Of predation dynamics down in the blue:

C F
From the tiniest plankton to the biggest species yet,

C G C
One thing they eat, by another are ate.
[Verse]
C F
Here is where a dilemma arises

C G C
For the noble phytoplankton photosynthesises

C F
And is thus confined to where the sun shines through,

C G C
And so by necessity what eats them too.
[Verse]
C F
But in the photic zone it is easier to see -

C G
The surface is a dangerous place to be.

C F
The darkness it offers substantial protection

       C G C
From becoming some predator's tasty confection.
[Verse]
C F
So to the surface fishies travel at night

             C G
When there's less chance of being espied in the light

    C F
But during the day to escape predation

     C G C F C
They return deeper down, and that's diurnal migration.
