HISTORY: Although the song appears in a variety of hymnals (https://tinyurl.com/8wfbcemj), the origin is anonymous, first appearing in the 1950s following its popular Israeli folk inspiration, "Tzena, Tzena, Tzena" (example here: https://tinyurl.com/bvdxhtds). This song paraphrases the beginning of the "Song of Moses and Miriam," an Old Testament canticle found in Exodus 15. HOW TO: In a church setting, this song is traditionally sung as verse 1, the bridge, and the chorus slowly at first, then repeated over and over, speeding up each time (see example here: https://tinyurl.com/mstf4bdf). Here is an extremely simplified version: https://tinyurl.com/vhm2ed7y. The second verse is optional for Easter. For strumming, I like to pluck the top string only on the first down stroke, then strum the rest with a bit of syncopation. [Intro] C F G C C F G C [Verse 1]
