Moving in to a house in a strange land, where stray dogs liked to roam

The owner spoke no English, but she showed us around our new home

As we were leaving a massive beast ambled right up to the stairs

She pointed to his mouth and shook her head, there was no need to beware

We thought she meant that he had no teeth til he yawned a big old yawn

Then he rolled on his back and looked ut us, and all our fear was gone

But even though we’d been reassured that he would never bite

His pointed ears made it clear that he’d been raised to fight

He was the meanest looking dog I’d ever seen - with a face only a mother would miss

He had scars all over and a bit of a limp, but we just called him Toothless

He hung around and ate our scraps - he was friendlier than you’d ever guess

He kept us safe both day and night, and we called him Toothless

Another dog tried to threaten us, Toothless challenged him to fight

That dog ran off yelping, but Toothless had suffered a pretty bad bite

We called a vet, who knocked him out, stitched him up and then was on his way

We kept him in the house to let him heal up - soon he was feeling ok

He brought us gifts every now and then - a goat or a camel leg

He tried his best to provide for us but when he wanted cheese he would beg
