This is what I use for the picking parts (intro, verses and pre-chorus). I know it is not exactly how it's played on guitar but it sounds right for me, and hopefully for you guys too. For the chorus I play the chords with only downstrokes.
Main picking pattern
   Am             F      C

E|-0-----0--0-----1----|-0---0--0-------0--0-----|  Every line of singing is 1 time the picking pattern,

Picking pattern outro

A|-0---------0-------|-3---------3--2--0-----|  The outro is nice and simple, the timing might be hard
E|-0---------1-------|-0------------0--0-----|  to explain but if you listen to the music first it
