Chords

The original is arranged for lute and uses a Csus2/G in the first two lines of the verses instead of the F, but that can make the vocal tricky as the singer needs to hit an A. Best bet to get close to the original intent is to tune the D and G strings down a half step and play ukulele chord shapes on the bottom four strings with a capo on fret 3. You can also just play it on ukulele or do ukulele chords at capo 5 on the guitar, but it lacks the depth of the original. Verse 1
     F C F Am
When I was a child, I felt as a child.

     F C F Am
When I was a woman, I felt something new.

     C7 Am C+ D
When I become old, I’ll turn to bone or heather.

        G F G C
When I die the winds cry, but the sky will still be blue.
Verse 2
      F C F Am
When you were a child, you thought as a child.

     F C F Am
When you were a woman, you felt something new.

     C7 Am C+ D
When You become old, you’ll change just like the weather.

          G F G C
When you die the winds will cry, but the sun will still shine through.
Bridge
C Am
There’s a haunting wind on the moors tonight.

C Am
There’s a blood red moon so bold.

C Am
They will all build fires in the hearths tonight,

C Am
   But mine alone stands cold.

C Am
There’s a biting cold in the air tonight,

C Am
   But I alone don’t mind.
Verse 3
F C F Am
Oh, for a life where we’re simple as the stars.

F C F Am
Oh, for a life where we’re freer than the grass.

C7 Am C+ D
Oh, for a life where we’re bolder than the daybreak.

    G F G C
And oh, for a life where like the time we pass.
