Lord Huron – Moon Song (Guitar Solo Tab)

Chords

Before we start: The rhythm guitar section of this tab focuses on the Alive From Whispering Pines Version of Moon Song. It is very similar to the one in Dylan Sherry's Youtube video, however the intro varies slightly: The Youtube Version starts off on G, goes to F for a second, before going to D, C and then G again. The AFWP Version doesn't have the first two chords, therefore starts off on D, goes to C and then G. You can easily figure out both parts by knowing the chords and listening to either version, this is just to avoid any confusion. The rest of the song should be the same (although the AFWP Version is incomplete, of course) :) The three main chords you need to accompany yourself are D, C and G. To sound as close to the original as possible, I suggest only strumming the four lower strings. I personally use bar chords, but open chords should work fine as well. For the intro:
e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
B|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
G|-11-11---11-11-11---11-11-11---x-9--x-x---4-4---4-4-4---4-4-4---4-x-x------|
D|-12-12---12-12-12---12-12-12---x-10-x-x---5-5---5-5-5---5-5-5---5-x-x------|
A|-12-12---12-12-12---12-12-12---x-10-x-x---5-5---5-5-5---5-5-5---5-x-x------|
E|-10-10---10-10-10---10-10-10---x-8--x-x---3-3---3-3-3---3-3-3---3-x-x------|
I tend to use this strumming pattern: UU UDU UDU X U XX DD UDU UDU U XX. Repeat once. During the verse and solo:
e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
B|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
G|-7-7---7-7-7---7-7-7---7-x-x---4-4---4-4-4---4-4-4---4-x-x-----------------|
D|-7-7---7-7-7---7-7-7---7-x-x---5-5---5-5-5---5-5-5---5-x-x-----------------|
A|-5-5---5-5-5---5-5-5---5-x-x---5-5---5-5-5---5-5-5---5-x-x-----------------|
E|-5-5---5-5-5---5-5-5---5-x-x---3-3---3-3-3---3-3-3---3-x-x-----------------|
Playing this twice will perfectly accompany the solo. I use the pattern: DD UDU UDU U XX DD UDU UDU U XX Solo: (There are at least two places to play the same notes on the fretboard. I use a hybrid of both that feels most natural to me)
e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
B|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
G|-/9-11--7-9----------------------------4-4-4-4-4-4-------------------------|
D|-------------7-9-------------0---------5-5-5-5-5-5-------------------------|
A|------------------7-9--2-0-2---2-------5-5-5-5-5-5-------------------------|
E|---------------------------------------x-x-x-x-x-x-------------------------|

e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
B|-------------------------------------------------------3p0-3h5-------------|
G|-/9-11--7-9------------------------------------2h4-2h4---------------------|
D|-------------7-9-------------0-------0-2p0-2h4-----------------------------|
A|------------------7-9--2-0-2---2p0-2---------------------------------------|
E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
Bridge/Outro:
e|--------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
B|--------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
G|-11-11-x--11-11-11-x--11-11-11-x-11-x-9--x-x--4-4-x--4-4-4-x--4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-|
D|-12-12-x--12-12-12-x--12-12-12-x-12-x-10-x-x--5-5-x--5-5-5-x--5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-|
A|-12-12-x--12-12-12-x--12-12-12-x-12-x-10-x-x--5-5-x--5-5-5-x--5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-|
E|-10-10-x--10-10-10-x--10-10-10-x-10-x-8--x-x--3-3-x--3-3-3-x--3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-|
Play this at least twice again, you can vary with the amount of dead notes and maybe sneak some more chords in there by playing them very fast. Tom (or maybe Brandon?) for example also does a slide on (to) the D chord at some point. I hope you found this helpful, have fun playing!! :) ************************************ | x Dead note | h Hammer-on | p Pull-off | / Slide up | \ Slide down ************************************
