G OPEN TUNING with a low G bass note : G-G-D-G-B-d
CAPO: 1st fret

1st string DOWN to D
2nd, 3rd and 4th strings as standard tuning
5th string DOWN to G
6th string DOWN to G
(an octave below detuned 5th string)
THEN, gently add the CAPO at the 1st fret.
You may need to use a capo type where the pressure
is adjustable, simpler ones may not hold the bottom
string tight enough. Re-check all the tuning,
particularly the very slack 6th string which adds
that growl. Keep your strumming a bit lighter than
normal to avoid knocking it out of tune too much.
VERY FINE TUNING:
Only needed if you want to play along more accurately
with the 'Blue' album track. Joni's guitar is tuned a
little under standard pitch. To match it much closer,
use a chromatic tuner and tune ALL six strings down
a little further, by approx. minus 20 cents.
For the G to C chords slide up from the open strings
into the 5th fret barre.
In the Breaks, slide up two frets from
the Gsus2 chord into the G * chord.
For the Cadd9 chords hammer-on and off the chord
from the open string voicing of the G chord.
