Chords

There is a version of this song that uses a capo on the fifth fret and plays it in the key of G. It sounds totally fine that way, but I hit on this way of playing it by listening to that one and realizing that it might sound a little smoother played with no capo and playing in the key of C. And to be fair, that G/B is really more like a Gsus4 13/B if that makes sense. C X32010 G/B X20010 Am7 X02010 Fmaj7 XX3210 [Verse 1]
         C G/B
You have led me to the sadness

         Am7 Fmaj7
I have carried this pain

     C G/B
on a back bruised, nearly broken

    Am7 Fmaj7
I'm crying out to You
[Chorus]
       C
I will sing of Your mercy

     G/B Am7
that leads me through valleys of sorrow

             Fmaj7
to rivers of joy
[Verse 2]
     C G/B
when death, like a gypsy

         Am7 Fmaj7
comes to steal what i love

       C G/B
I will still look to the heavens

       Am7 Fmaj7
I will still seek your face

      C G/B
but I fear You aren't listening

        Am7 Fmaj7
because there are no words

         C G/B
just the stillness and the hunger

      Am7 Fmaj7
for a faith that assures
[Chorus]
       C
I will sing of Your mercy

     G/B Am7
that leads me through valleys of sorrow

             Fmaj7
to rivers of joy

C G/B Am7 Fmaj7
alleluia, alleluia

C G/B Am7 Fmaj7
alleluia, alleluia
[Verse 3]
         C G/B
while we wait for rescue

         Am7 Fmaj7
with our eyes tightly shut

            C G/B
face to the ground using our hands

   Am7 Fmaj7
to cover the fatal cut

           C G/B
though the pain is an ocean

        Am7 Fmaj7
tossing us around, around, around

         C G/B
You have calmed greater waters

       Am7 Fmaj7
higher mountains have come down
[Chorus]
       C
I will sing of Your mercy

     G/B Am7
that leads me through valleys of sorrow

             Fmaj7
to rivers of joy
