Each space in the tab represents 1/16th note, meaning there are 16 spaces in each measure. If the space is filled with a number, that fret should be played on the corresponding beat. If there is a - sign, that means the particular string is resting on the current beat. I do this so that people can accurately match the tab to the rhythm in a similar way to how sheet music is read.
