How to Play "Equip Sunglasses" in Standard Tuning
=============================================================
This catchy joint has been the only song in my head
for the past 48h and I need a way to get it out.
But when I looked up how to play it, they seem to use
some fancy open tuning. And while ain't nobody got time
to tune more than one string different for just one song,
apparently they do got time to make their own arrangement...
So here's how I'm jamming this song alone on a
classical guitar (but using a pick) in STANDARD
I'll give you the chords I use, as well as their place in the
scale in case you want to transpose the progression to a different
key. Just note that their names are simply the root. I'm not pro
enough to figure out what they actually are called, but there is a
suspended feel to them for whatever that's worth. I've landed on the
key you see here (A) to allow for open strings and playing close
to the nut. This way I can still get a vibe like the recording but
solo on an acoustic guitar in standard. I guess all that to say just
use a capo to transpose it.

// The Chords You'll Need
Make sure you deaden the unused strings while playing.
You could otherwise get some nasty notes muckin up your sound.

// The Hook
While I didn't bother trying to do an arrangement where you
could easily play both the progression and lead, I hope this
will still satisfy.
Again, I trust you'll be able to place the legato parts
and particulars of the rhythm on your own.
F# A E B e|–-----–----–----–---------|–-----–---------–----------------| B|–-----–---------–---------|–-----–---------–----------------| G|–--11-11-9–---11-13-9-11--|---11-11-9----11---------9----9--| D|–---–------11--–------–---|-----------11----11-9-11---11----| A|–-----–-----–----–--------|–-----–---------–----------------| E|–-----------–----–--------|–-----–--------------–-----------| F# A E B e|–-----–----–----–---------|–-----–---------–----------------| B|–-----–---------–---------|–-----–---------–----------------| G|–--11-11-9–---11-13-9-11--|---11-11-9----11-----------------| D|–---–------11--–------–---|-----------11----11-9------------| A|–-----–-----–----–--------|–-----–---------–----------------| E|–-----------–----–--------|–-----–--------------–-----------| ^ | Stop here for the | ending of the song
// The Guiar Solo
You didn't think I'd leave you without the solo did you?
Just like with the hook, this is just the broad strokes.
It's up to you to bring it to life! If you need a hint,
think of this as what the solo would sound like if it was
made up of notes that all had the same length.
e|--The repeated part---------–-----–-----------------| B|–----–---------–------------–-----–---------–-------| G|–-11-11-9–11-11-11-11-9-------11-11-9-11-13-11-9-9--| D|–--–----------–------–------------------------------| A|–----–-----–----–-----------–-----–-----------------| E|–----------–----–-----------–-----–-----–-----------| e|--The ending part-----------–-----–-------11-12-----| B|–----–---------–------------–-12----12–14-----------| G|–-11-11-9–11-11-11-11-9-11-13----13-----------------| D|–--–----------–------–------------------------------| A|–----–-----–----–-----------–-----–-----------------| E|–----------–----–-----------–-----–-----–-----------|
And that's all there is to it! For what it's worth,
the recording is in G# so to play along, you can shift
everything in here down a semitone. Except for the chords
I guess... You'd have to tune down. But if you're going to do
that why not just try that fancy open tuning instead!
Best wishes,
—Jason
