Update: after a while of learning music theory I've decided this song is in fact in the key D Major,
featuring borrowed chords from the Key of Dm/F. The implications of this are two fold. First, the chord
previously identified as D#dim is in fact a D7 with the b9 in the root. Second, we can subsequently play
D7 first then the D7b9 in the first verse to better communicate the bass notes of the piano.
Also, after reviewing the chords, I find that you can opt for certain alternative barre chords (e.g. you
can play the A barred like an E major chord on the 5th fret instead of playing way up the octave.) Same goes
many open chords (e.g. Em or the first A major chord)
Thanks.
This song is somewhat difficult to imagine for just guitar because there is so much ambient instrumentation
which also affects the key. Below is a series of chords I worked out to match the voicing of the lyrics
alongside the instrumentation. Being fairly dischordant I think these chords work well to structure all
the lyrics.
Note: I understand the Cmin is a bit different but I think it voices the lyrics well. The only chord I am
uncertain about is the B(barre) although I think it works well in lieu of the piano accompaniment.
Below is a list of chords used:
