[Intro]
Keep the pattern bellow by fingerpicking first the open D string and then the open A string
while playing the rest of the D chord shape in the strings G, B, E.
Do the same with the chords G, Em and Bm. Slightly different I know, but same logic.
If you listen carefully to the song it's quite easy to pick up the right bass notes.
In some lines, you have to change the order of the bass note you're playing.
Instead of the usual D then A string with the D chord, do A then D instead.
In every last line of every verse when you sing "dirty old town" play F#,
second fret of the E string before playing G. The song finishes with A,
by playing the fourth fret, E string. Hope this helps. Thanks. Enjoy!
