Notes: Props to Dr. Leonard and all his great Dawes charts, but I felt like his one on this song didn't quite get the feel right, so I've gone through and made one myself. If you're a beginner who can't quite barre yet, transpose down 4 semitones, slap a capo on the 5th fret, and you'll have a mostly open version in the same key! For those who like some smooth barre one-man band :)
Bsus4 B riff (rel. to capo) at end of verse:
e|----7-------7--|---------------|
B|--------5------|-4-------------|
G|------4-------4|---------------|
D|-4-------------|---------------|
A|---------------|---------------|
E|---------------|---------------|
I don't use this, but instead appoximate it with a B barre, using
an open high E string for the 4th, then the normal 3rd on the B
string.
Also, at the end of the Pre-Chorus, they play a full measure of B, then there's a soft break on the 1 of the next measure with B. I've never seen this notated on UG, so I just wrote: | B N.C.|
For the little arpeggiated thing during the B in the bridge, I pick
a B with an added 4th and 6th:
e|-0
B|-4
G|-1
D|-4
A|-2
E|-x
Capo: 1st [Intro] |E |A | (x4) [Verse 1]
E C#m
This ones going out to you

As the taxi pulls away

   E A Bsus4 B
A song to keep you company for the ride

                   E C#m
There's something wrong with a goodbye

        Bm7 A
In the middle of the day

       E A Bsus4 B
So pretend I am still sitting at your side
[Pre-Chorus]
                   A | A C#m |
And if you want to talk about all the differences

              B B
Between the shackle and the man

                   A | A C#m | B | B N.C.|
or if you've got reasons no one ever let you say

Then fire away

On the day they let you out

          E A Bsus4 B
For the thousand ways they ask if you're okay
E (huge drum break) C#m Because whatever answer that you give
                 Bm7 A
It's only gonna play into their doubts

              E A Bsus4 B
And be just half of what's behind each word you say
[Pre-Chorus}
               A | A C#m |
So if you finally roped that heartbreak song

           B B
That the experts never could

                  A | A C#m | B | B N.C.|
Or if you just wanted someone to listen to you play
[Chorus]
            E A E A
Then fire away
(ayyy-yyyy)
            E A E A

This ones going out to you

         Bm7 A
If you ever start to slip

          E A Bsus4 B
And you learn to read between these lines you've drawn
E (double-time drum) C#m When what is wrong and what is right
                         Bm7 A
Seem more like just the ocean and the ship

            E A Bsus4 B
And the straight line that you've followed here is gone
[Pre-Chorus]
              A | A C#m |
And if that same old fox comes and sweeps you up

       B B
Each time you spread your wings

                   A | A C#m | B |
I could at least love you through each stumble, shift and sway
