Chords

“Grey Room” by Damien Rice off the Album “9” No capo, standard tuning. Chords: G/D: 332010 C: 133211 Bm: 022000 D: 355433 Notes on strumming: There are lots of hammer-ons and pull-offs in this song. In general: When he plays the C/G chord, he does the hammer-ons and pull-offs with the open D string the E note on the second fret. When he plays the F chord, he does the hammer-ons and pull-offs with the open G string the A note on the second fret. During the verse, right before you change from the F chord back to the C/G, he does a pull-off with the F chord like it's described above. If you want to keep the F bass note on that F chord, you could play it with your thumb I like to do to keep a nice, full sound [plus it's cool to play with your thumb So it goes like this: C/G chord hammer-on:
E|--0-0-----|
B|--1-1-----|
G|--0-0-----|
D|--0h2-----|
A|--3-3-----|
E|--3-3-----|
C/G chord pull-off:

B|--1-1-----|
G|--0-0-----|
D|--2p0-----|

F chord hammer-on:

I tried to get the chord placements right with the lyrics, but they might be off a bit, you know how it goes... Intro: G/D C
	    G/D C
Well I've been here before, I've sat on the floor, in a grey grey room,

	  G/D C
Where I stay in all day, I don't eat, but I play, with this grey grey food,

G/D C
Desole, If someone is prayin', then I might break out,

G/D C
Desole, Even if I scream, I can't scream that loud,

Bm C Bm C Bm C
I'm all alone again, crawling back home again, just stuck by the phone again
[Right around 1:28 he sneaks in a G note on the third fret, first string]
                G/D C
Yeah, well I've been here before, sat on a floor, in a grey grey mood,

        D/G C
Where I stay up all night, And all that I write, is a grey grey tune,

   G/D C
So pray for me child, Just for a while, And I might break out yeah,

G/D C
Pray for me child, even a smile, would do for now,
[Crank up the speakers because Lisa kicks in here – go Lisa!]
Bm C Bm C Bm C

		     D C
Have I still got you to be my open door,

		     D C
Have I still got you to be my sandy shore,

		     D C
Have I still got you to cross my bridge in this storm,

		     D C
Have I still got you to keep me warm,

		     G/D C
Coz if I squeeze my grape, And I drink my wine yeah,

		     G/D C
Coz if I squeeze my grape, And I drink my wine yeah,

		 G/D
Yeah, Oh coz nothing is lost, This is frozen in frost,

	   C
And it's opening time, And there's no-one in line,

			 D C
But I've still got me to be your open door,

		   D C
I've still got me to be your sandy shore,

		   D C
I've still got me to cross your bridge in this storm,

                   D C
And I've still got me to keep you warm,

            G/D C
Warmer than warm yeah, Warmer than warm yeah,

	      G/D C
Warmer than warm yeah, Warmer than warm yeah
