D|---------7--------------9-------------2----------------------2-----------|
A|---------7-----------9----------------2----------------------------------|
E|-----5--------0----7---------------0-------------------------------------|The riffs he does throughout mostly use pull-offs using the higher notes of the E minor pentatonic played
in open position. There are lots of variations throughout the song - other than the ones listed already,
these particular ones come up the most:
e|----3p0-----------------------| B|---------3p0----3----0--------| G|------------------------------| D|------------------------------| A|------------------------------| E|------------------------------|
and
e|----3p0-----------------------| B|----------3p0-----------------| G|---------------2----0---------| D|------------------------------| A|------------------------------| E|------------------------------|
[Verse]
Same as the intro, but sometimes missing the low E note, instead using a
nice sliding note on the A string like this:
Am Bm Em e|--------------------------------------------------------------------------| B|--------------------------------------------------------------------------| G|---------5----------------7--------------0----------0h2h0--------0--------| D|---------7----------------9--------------2------------------2-------------| A|---------7------7/-----9-----------------2--------------------------------| E|-----5---------------7-------------0--------------------------------------|
For each chord notice how sometimes he plays the A string separately from the D and G string (inbetween
hitting the base note and the 'chord'), and sometimes all together. You can mix it up however you like.
[Chorus]
Try to slide as much as possible between these chords to get the right sound.
Using the thumb-over (hendrix) barre chord technique helps with this.
Am Bm C D e|-------------------------------------------------------------| B|-------------------------------------------------------------| G|---------5-------------7------------9--------------11--------| D|---------7-------------9------------10-------------12--------| A|---------7-------------9------------10-------------12-------| E|-----5---------------7------------8-------------10-----------|
But you are the one..
G A C Bm C Bm C Bm e|----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| B|----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| G|-------4-----------6-----------9-----------7-----------9-----------7-----------9------------7-------| x2 D|-------5-----------7-----------10----------9----------10-----------9-----------10-----------9-------| A|-------5-----------7-----------10----------9----------10-----------9-----------10-----------9-------| E|---3-----------5-----------8-----------7-----------8-----------7-----------8-----------7-------=----| e|-----3-----| B|-----2-----| G|-----3-----| strummed repeatedly - focus on strumming the lower strings D|-----0-----| (i.e. don't play the high E very loud) A|-----------| E|-----------|
Sometimes everything is easy..
