I try to keep a sense of rhythm by keeping the note spacing linear, where I can. To do this, some of the higher frets had to be represented by single-characters, just like the lower ones. Think like hexadecimal with the frets: 7, 8, 9, (A instead of 10), (B instead of 11), etc. It looks a little confusing at first, but it keeps the spacing more consistent between notes.
