Andy Williams made the world's first release of this lyrical adaptation. Originally composed by Nino Rota for
the movie The Godfather Part II; The Immigrant. Marty and David Paich arranged this version. Unlike for the
first film's song Love Theme From "The Godfather" (Speak Softly Love) two years prior, Andy did not record
multiple language versions again. The lyrics for Love Said Goodbye (Love Theme From "The Godfather Part II")
in English were written by Larry Kusik.
A Spanish and Japanese title in El Amor Dijo Adios (Tema central de la pelicula "El Padrino Segunda Parte")
and Goddofāzā Pātsu II No Tēma - (Ai wa dare no te ni) only exist as foreign market prints, but not as
recordings. The song first was just available on a US promo disk in 1974 before being issued as a single.
Only found on various Japanese LPs for decades, it eventually became track no. 11 on 2002's CD re-issue of
the 1976 LP Andy.
Transcript of the mandolins in GDae standard tuning. There are two present, both playing with tremolo unless
noted otherwise. But they are doing the exact same part, only doubled to beef up the sound in the recording.
One of them does play a bit louder than the other. We know them to be two different takes and not a duplicate
because there is a slight chorus effect from them not being totally in synch.

Lyrics:
How cold the wind that whispers you are gone
How sad the rain that cries your name at dawn
Where is the laughter that we once knew
Had I but reached, would I still have you?
Seeker of dreams was I, then I lost my way
Keeper of hope that promised love for another day
How did it all slip away?
Sweet wine of youth told me that love would wait
I stormed the castle walls but reached too late
My life, my world are a misty blue
Love said goodbye to my dreams and you
Where is the laughter that we once knew
Had I but reached, would I still have you?
Sweet wine of youth told me that love would wait
I stormed the castle walls but reached too late
My life, my world are a misty blue
Love said goodbye to my dreams and you
